What Save My Tomato stands for?
Save My Tomato champions every American’s right to choose from a wide variety of vine-ripe tomatoes —juicy Romas, sweet grape and cherry tomatoes, bold beefsteaks, tomatoes on the vine and so much more— fresh on shelves available year-round.
Renewing the Tomato Suspension Agreement is the only way to stop a crippling import tax that would slash variety, spike prices and leave consumers with only gassed-green round and roma tomatoes. Americans have already chosen taste, nutrition and value.
Let’s keep fair trade across borders and say yes to our freedom to choose from a diverse assortment of truly flavorful tomatoes.
WHAT’S AT STAKE ON JULY 14, 2025?
A 17% import tax on Mexican tomatoes would impact American jobs, businesses and households.
If the Agreement expires…
70% of tomato supply faces an import tax leading to higher tomato prices
Limited tomato offer based on domestic production of mature green Romas and rounds. Shrink of the specialty varieties we love: multi-color, grape, cherry, beefsteak, heirloom, cocktail tomatoes and more.
46,000+ U.S. jobs tied to import & distribution would be at risk: trucking, warehousing and food-service
This time a tomato is more than just a tomato

CAN YOU TELL THE DIFFERENCE?
| Mature Greens (Domestic) | Vine - Ripe (Mexico) |
|---|---|
| Harvested green | Vine ripened, delicious |
| Gassed for color, not taste | Flavourful romas, multi-colored grapes and cherries, tomatoes-on-the-vine, beefsteaks, heirlooms, cocktail, etc |
| Limited Variety | Great for snacking, salads, burgers, pastas, and more |

FAQ’S
What is the Tomato Suspension Agreement?
The Tomato Suspension Agreement of 2019 (originally from 1996) allowed tariff-free Mexican tomato imports if they met price and quality conditions. It paused an anti-dumping investigation by ensuring fair pricing.
Why are import taxes being imposed on Mexican tomatoes?
Some Southeast growers claim that their U.S. competitors are selling Mexican tomatoes below fair market value, despite the price protections put in place by the Department of Commerce since 1996. A 17% tariff is proposed to counteract this.
Why should U.S. consumers care?
Prices will likely rise. U.S. companies working with growers in Mexico supply ~90% of U.S. tomato imports, and the added cost is expected to hit retail prices. e. Estimates suggest price hikes of 38% to 85% during some seasons.
